    Economics speaker Robert C. Merton is a renowned finance professor and economist, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics. He’s also a Professor at MIT and at Harvard University. From the late 1980s to 2010, he also taught at Harvard Business School. In 1970, Merton graduated from MIT and went on to work at MIT’s Sloan School of Management until 1988.

    Aside from MIT, he also studied both at Columbia University and the California Institute of Technology. At present, he works at Dimensional Fund Advisors, where he created a retirement-funding solution system called Target Retirement Solution.

    Merton received the 1997 Alfred Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. He obtained the prize thanks to his innovative ways of calculating the value of derivatives. Merton has done important contributions to finance theory, including work on lifecycle and retirement finance, optimal portfolio selection, capital asset pricing, and the pricing of derivative securities. He has also been recognized for his efforts in translating finance science into practice and has received numerous awards for his work, including the Financial Engineer of the Year Award and the CME Group Melamed-Arditti Innovation Award.
