    Mo Gawdat biography

As Chief Business Officer at Google X, speaker Mo Gawdat developed business ideas decades ahead of their time. Nowadays, Mo Gawdat is one of the most sought-after happiness speakers in the world. Gawdat’s 2017 bestseller Solve for Happy brings his analytical and creative skills to bear on the question of happiness itself.

After a successful career with IBM, NCR, and Microsoft, Gawdat joined Google as VP of Emerging Markets. This role turned on more than sales: he needed to find ways to truly empower communities with technology. Over the course of six years, Gawdat was responsible for launching nearly half of Google’s operations worldwide.

His success led to another role with Google: CBO of the company’s innovation arm, Google X. There, he led the division’s business strategy, planning, sales, and strategic partnerships. Google launched Google X to develop the self-driving car, and specializes in projects that promise radical improvements to the status quo. Project Loon, for example, seeks to provide global internet access through a network of high-altitude balloons. Project Makani aims to produce wind energy by means of carbon-fiber kites.

At the same time, Gawdat pursued his two other professional passions. As a serial entrepreneur, he founded more than 20 businesses in a variety of sectors. He also mentors dozens of startup companies and hosts a popular podcast, Slo Mo: A Podcast with Mo Gawdat.

He also made a serious study of human happiness. The results of his research were put to a grueling test in 2014, when his son died from an error committed during a routine medical procedure. Pushing through his grief, Gawdat continued his research and presented it in 2017 as Solve for Happy. The book represents Gawdat’s personal moonshot: a mission to deliver his message of happiness to one billion people.

In 2021, Mo published Scary Smart: The Future of Artificial Intelligence and How You Can Save Our World. The Times included it amongst the 12 Best Business Books of the year. In it, Mo presents a roadmap detailing how we can co-exist with AI when it inevitably becomes a billion times smarter than us.

Following this, Mo Gawdat released That Little Voice In Your Head: Adjust the Code That Runs Your Brain in May 2022, providing insights into the workings of the human mind. His latest work, Unstressable: Dissolve Your Stress Before it Starts, applies his engineering mindset and Alice Law’s expertise in psychology and stress management to tackle the stress pandemic. This book is designed to offer practical exercises and accessible psychology to help manage stress effectively.

Through his writings, podcast, and appearances as a public speaker, Mo Gawdat brings his unique perspective to an ever-widening audience.
