Johnson, who was born in 1967 in Dallas, is unquestionably one of the greatest track athletes in American history. When teamed with his signature golden running shoes, his distinctive upright running style with short flowing steps defied standard training methods. His style made his acceleration and speed appear effortless, making him an unstoppable force.
He made history when breaking records for both the 200-meter and 400-meter sprints.
In 1996, speaker Michael Johnson won gold in both the 200-meter and 400-meter sprints in the same Olympics, and he’s the only male to have accomplished this. Furthermore, he defended his 400-meter Olympic title in 2000. He ended up holding the 400 meters record for seven years. In total, he has four gold medals from the Olympics and eight world championship titles.
