From his Nobel-winning work in theoretical physics to his eye-opening efforts on the blockbuster Interstellar, Kip Thorne constantly pushes boundaries. Also a bestselling author, Thorne has done as much as anyone to bring the leading edge of astrophysics to a mass audience. Events that explore cutting-edge science with a popular touch welcome Thorne’s extraordinarily illuminating keynote speeches.
Want to book Kip S. Thorne as a speaker for your event? Please provide the info below and we’ll get in touch within 24h:
Nobel-winning science speaker Kip S Thorne is a celebrated astrophysicist and a remarkably adept popular writer on science. A remarkably entertaining public speaker, Kip S Thorne relates his near-unimaginable insights about the universe in vivid, unforgettable addresses.
Kip Thorne is the Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics, Emeritus, at the California Institute of Technology. For more than 40 years, he led a research group that studied relativistic astrophysics and gravitational physics.
With Rainer Weiss and Ronald Drever, he founded the Laster Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory. In 2015, LIGO recorded gravitational waves caused by black holes 1.4 billion light years away. This discovery, and the remarkable career that preceded it, earned Thorne a share of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Thorne co-wrote the popular textbooks Gravitation and Modern Classical Physics. His work on wormholes inspired 1994’s bestselling Black Holes and Time Warps: Einstein’s Outrageous Legacy. After co-writing a movie treatment, Thorne became an executive producer on the Christopher Nolan film Interstellar, and its science advisor. The Science of Interstellar explores both Thorne’s role in the film’s production and the astonishing science behind the movie.
Additionally, Thorne has earned Fulbright, Guggenheim, and Woodrow Wilson fellowships. Along with his Nobel honors, he has also won the Albert Einstein Medal, the Shaw, Kavli, and Tomalla Prizes, and the Princess of Asturias Award.
Interstellar, by filmmaker Christopher Nolan, takes us on a fantastic journey far beyond our solar system. However, in The Science of Interstellar, Kip Thorne, the Nobel Prize-winning physicist who helped Nolan in the scientific aspects of Interstellar, shows us that the amazing events of the film and the stunning images never before attempted are based on real science. Thorne shares his experiences working as a scientific advisor in the film and then goes on to science itself in this fascinating keynote speech.
Kip Thorne, a physicist awarded the Nobel Prize in 2017 and executive producer of Interstellar, has spent 30 years of his life seeking to understand the legacy left by the great Albert Einstein for the next generations. This great work, summarized in his bestselling book and in this conference, will take you through the fascinating world of black holes, white dwarfs, neutron stars, gravitational waves, singularities, wormholes and even time machines.
