It may seem like little unites us these days, but Johnathan Haidt sees grounds for collaboration across bitterly divides. His research in moral psychology suggests that our capacity for moral judgment can, with good faith, be the basis of reconciliation. These observations also inform his work as a business ethicist and a champion of academic free speech. Organisations that find strength in diversity also find an ideal keynote speaker in Haidt.

Moral psychology speaker Jonathan Haidt studies the ways in which diversity of opinion can support fundamental agreement on ethical principles. A bracing and enlightening public speaker, Jonathan Haidt reveals the surprising case for collaboration even in our polarized times.
Jonathan Haidt began his career in the University of Virginia’s Department of Psychology. His research into the foundations of morality soon found a natural application in the field of business ethics. Now a social psychologist at New York University’s Stern School of Business, Haidt asks how companies can build resistance to ethical failure.
His bestselling books explore the changing expression of morality across cultures, even within nations. The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion remains enduringly popular. Moreover, The Coddling of the American Mind became an international sensation, inspiring an ongoing debate about campus speech.
Building on the popularity of The Coddling of the American Mind, Haidt also co-founded Heterodox Academy. The organization brings together nearly 2,500 professors to support freedom of inquiry and campus diversity at leading universities. A political centrist, he also co-founded CivilPolitics.org, a resource for data-driven research on moral and political psychology.
In this talk Jonathan presents the most important tools from positive psychology for understanding what is happening, fending off anxiety, and growing from adversity.
How COVID 19 may alter trends affecting Gen Z and education.
Jonathan analyzes the very bad trends in American democracy from before the pandemic hit, and discusses the many ways that the pandemic is changing those trends — some for better, some for worse. What is the outlook for American democracy, and what can citizens and leaders do to help? Includes advice on how to handle political disputes within any organization. (Draws on The Righteous Mind, and more recent research).
Leading a company, or any group of human beings, has always been a challenge. Since 2017, that challenge has gotten much harder as political polarization coincides with the arrival of Gen Z in the workforce. Social media makes everything more explosive. And now with the pandemic and dark economic future… good leadership is so much harder, and more vital. In this talk I offer tools from social, moral, and positive psychology that can help leaders maximize cooperation, trust, and growth within their organizations.
