Speaker Isabel Garro is an unconventional economist. She completed her training in Business Administration and Management and quickly realized that the theories she studied contrasted significantly with practical experience in the work environment. Driven by a constant desire to acquire knowledge and an insatiable curiosity to transform the business world, she ventured into the field of sustainability when it was still a largely unknown concept.
Her professional career is as varied as it is fascinating. She has served in the three fundamental pillars of the economy: the public sector, the private sector, and civil society, holding leadership positions in the Government of Spain and in the United Nations’ foremost sustainability initiative. Currently, she is the Chief Sustainability Officer at Votorantim Cimentos.
Recognized as an expert in sustainable development, her extensive career has positioned her as a co-leader in Spain’s sustainability commitments, working from the most influential levels of the main relevant entities. She has been a Special Advisor to the High Commissioner for the 2030 Agenda in the Presidency of the Government of Spain and has been the General Director of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact for 14 years.
As a prominent national figure on the 2030 Agenda, Speaker Isabel Garro has held roles of great importance as Spain’s representative to the Council of the European Union in this area. She has also chaired the Advisory Group of Local Networks of the UN Global Compact and has been a member of the Advisory Committee of Transparency International Spain, as well as the Ethics Council of Auchan Spain.
