Cybersecurity speaker Eugene Kaspersky began defeating computer viruses as a hobby; hundreds of millions now depend on his products. A popular keynote speaker, Eugene Kaspersky speaks from unmatched experience as one of our staunchest defenders against cybercrime.
In 1989, the Cascade virus infected Eugene Kaspersky’s computer. When he wrote a program that identified and removed the virus, Kaspersky knew that he was on to something. Two years later, he left his government post for a private company, where he developed his first product, Antiviral Toolkit Pro. Kaspersky’s efforts earned him worldwide praise, including first place in an antivirus competition sponsored by Hamburg University.
By 1997, Kaspersky had co-founded his own company, Kaspersky Lab. His new venture got an early test from the CIH (or Chernobyl) virus, and met it more successfully than any product on the market.
When an American company began using Kaspersky Lab’s name—which was not trademarked—Eugene Kaspersky renamed his firm Kaspersky Antivirus. Under the new moniker, Kaspersky continued to develop highly effective, user-friendly antivirus software, and his user base continued to grow. Kaspersky’s core products are still regularly rated the best in their field, and remain overwhelmingly popular.
His experience on the front lines of modern cyberwarfare has made Kaspersky acutely aware of government-sponsored cyberattacks. He writes and speaks regularly on the subject, and advocates for an international treaty banning the practice.
Kaspersky holds several patents, including one for a security system that controls the interaction of software components.
