Healthcare speaker Dr. “Q” Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa used to be poor and live in Mexico before crossing to California to find hope. Once in California, he worked hard in the rail yards and the tomato fields. He would study biology at the San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton whenever he was not working. Dr. Q later studied at Berkley and then Harward, where he obtained his medical degree. In addition, he became a US citizen.
After receiving his medical degree, he went on to study developmental and stem cell biology. This later allowed him to teach neurosurgery, oncology, and cellular and molecular medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Dr. Q is one of the best surgeons and scientists in the world. Each year, he performs surgery on about 250 brain tumors. In addition, he leads innovative research to find a cure for brain cancer.
At Johns Hopkins, he focuses on treating metastatic and primary brain tumors. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and National Institutes of Health have funded his multiple brain cancer researches. These researches focus on the role that stem cells can have in the fight against illness. He’s presently researching a way to fight brain tumors by using human fat cells.
