Business speaker Daniel Yergin is one of the world’s leading experts on the energy sector, and a bestselling author. A compelling and enlightening public speaker, Daniel Yergin shares a deeply informed vision of where our energy future lies.
After earning his PhD from Cambridge University as a Marshall Scholar, Daniel Yergin taught for years at Harvard. Later, in 1982, he co-founded Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) on a shoestring budget. CERA soon became an influential analyst of the energy industry. Afterwards, IHS Markit acquired it in 2004.
Yergin continues to serve as an executive at IHS Markit. As a member of the Secretary of Energy’s advisory board, he has been a trusted consultant to four presidential administrations.
The son of a journalist, Yergin wrote for the Yale Daily News and founded The New Journal while an undergraduate. He continued to write for publications including The Atlantic and the New York Times Magazine, and in 1977 wrote his first book. Shattered Peace earned the National Historical Society’s award for best book of the year.
His first bestseller, Energy Future, appeared two years later. In it, Yergin champions energy conservation and alternatives to fossil fuels. His fourth book made Yergin’s popular reputation. The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power won the Pulitzer Prize and the Eccles Prize for best general-audience economics book. It was translated into 17 languages. Additionally, PBS and the BBC adapted it into a series.
Yergin returned in 2011 with the bestselling The Quest: Energy, Security, and the Remaking of the Modern World. 2020’s The New Map earned him the American Energy Society’s Energy Writer of the Year award.
In this gripping keynote speech based on his international bestselling book "The Quest", Pulitzer prize winner Daniel Yergin will talk about the quest for the energy that our world needs.
A master storyteller as well as a leading energy expert, Yergin will show how energy is an engine of global political and economic change. It is a story that spans the energies on which our civilization has been built and the new energies that are competing to replace them. From the jammed streets of Beijing to the shores of the Caspian Sea, from the conflicts in the Mideast to Capitol Hill and Silicon Valley, Yergin will take you into the decisions that are shaping our future. The drama of oil - the struggle for access, the battle for control, the insecurity of supply, the consequences of use, its impact on the global economy, and the geopolitics that dominate it - continues to profoundly affect our world.
Yergin will tell the inside stories of the oil market and the surge in oil prices, the race to control the resources of the former Soviet empire, and the massive mergers that transformed the landscape of world oil. He will tackle the toughest questions: Will we run out of oil? Are China and the United States destined to come into conflict over oil? How will a turbulent Middle East affect the future of oil supply?
In this keynote speech based on his international bestseller "The Prize", Daniel Yergin will recount the panoramic history of oil, and the struggle for wealth and power that has always surrounded oil. This struggle has shaken the world economy, dictated the outcome of wars, and transformed the destiny of men and nations.
The Prize is as much a history of the 20th-century as of the oil industry itself. The canvas of this history is enormous - from the drilling of the first well in Pennsylvania through two great world wars to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and Operation Desert Storm.
In this keynote based based on his international bestseller, The Commanding Heights, Pulitzer prize winner Daniel Yergin will talk about the most powerful political and economic force in the world today -- the epic struggle between government and the marketplace that has, over the last twenty years, turned the world upside down and dramatically transformed our lives. Yergin will explain the revolution in ideas that is reshaping the modern world by providing the historical perspective, the global vision, and the insight to help us understand the tumult of the past half century.
