From the immediacy of tweeting to feature-length articles on Medium, Christopher “Biz” Stone has built the platforms that power our discourse. Five years after Twitter’s launch, he turned his attention to other projects, first as Medium’s co-founder and chief creative officer. In a similar role with the Obvious Corporation, he developed startups including Branch and Lift.
In 2013, Stone launched Jelly, a community-sourced search engine. When Pinterest acquired Jelly in 2017, Stone returned to Twitter.
Inc. named Stone its Entrepreneur of the Decade. Both the Economist and the International Center for Journalism honored him with their Innovation Awards. In addition, TIME listed Stone as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and GQ made him its Nerd of the Year for 2014. He even won an Emmy for his contributions to Twitter.
Stone began his career in book publishing, as a creative designer at Little, Brown. He has also written several titles of his own, including Blogging, Who Let the Blogs Out?, and Things a Little Bird Told Me: Confessions of the Creative Mind. Stone is a visiting fellow at the Oxford University Centre for corporate Reputation and an executive fellow at UC Berkeley.
Away from the office, Stone is also an active philanthropist with strong interests in environmental conservation, education, and animal rights.
