From Gap to Tesla, HR speaker Beth Davies has helped the world’s most successful companies deliver at all levels. As a keynote speaker, Beth Davies shares the insights and stories she gathered while helping some of the world’s most visionary companies deliver on their promise to reinvent the future.
In a career that has spanned a quarter century, Beth Davies has helped countless companies build winning cultures. Apple, Tesla, and Microsoft seek her guidance in their efforts to become customer-centered, innovative workplaces.
Davies began her career at Tesla in manufacturing. At the time, the company owned a new and empty factory that was scheduled to become a high-quality car-manufacturing facility in less than a year. Beth led the project of building out training to support factory operations across the board. The factory opened on time, with a fully trained staff.
Her success in that first role led Davies to take on similar challenges across the company. With a small team and a smaller budget, she developed an innovative strategy to train Tesla’s entire global workforce. Similarly, Davies onboarded new hires, trained sales and delivery teams, and implemented a company-wide learning infrastructure.
Prior to her years at Tesla, Davies was on the small team that designed and implemented Microsoft’s retail strategy. As the company’s customer experience director, she was responsible for training employees at all Microsoft stores worldwide.
Davies was a key figure in Apple’s recovery from the brink of bankruptcy. In 2003, she became Apple’s head of leadership development. By 2005, Davies was the head of training for Apple’s still-new but rapidly growing network of retail stores.
Nowadays, Beth hosts the popular Career Curves podcast. In addition, Beth serves as an advisor to EdTech startups and teaches in the Talent Development & Human Resources master’s program at IE University.
Innovative HR programs are essential for taking a startup through aggressive growth. How do you innovate in HR and what does this look like? In this session, Beth will use real examples from Tesla and other startups to illustrate how this can be done well, even with little or no budget. She’ll also explore the mindset HR professionals need to have to try new things and embrace the technology now available in our field.
Changes in technology mean many skills learned today will be obsolete in 3-5 years. If you hire the best and the brightest graduates to join your team, in just a few years their skills will be out-of-date unless you invest in their development. What’s the best way to do this given the tools and technology today? Sharing stories and lessons from her years at Tesla, Apple and Microsoft, Beth will offer practical, actionable ideas that meet the needs of the modern learner.
When a customer buys something there’s a far greater chance they’ll become a raving fan than when they are sold something. What’s the difference and how do you create a culture that leaves customers deeply loyal to your brand? Using stories from her time at Apple and Tesla, Beth explores these concepts and shares strategies any organization can apply.
